WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen.-elect Jim Webb on Friday added a former congresswoman from Northern Virginia and a lawyer and Democratic Party activist from the state's far southwest to his Senate transition team.

Leslie Byrne of Falls Church and Mary Lynn Tate of Abingdon will round out a team that includes former U.S. Rep. Owen B. Pickett of Virginia Beach, Richmond lawyer and state Del. Donald McEachin, and veteran Senate staffer Tom Lehner, Webb's office said.

Byrne, who served in the House from 1993 to 19 95 and narrowly lost a race for lieutenant governor last year, was among the first prominent Democrats to endorse Webb last spring. She played a prominent role in his efforts to mobilize women voters and overcome Republican charges that some of his writings degraded women.

Tate is a prominent trial lawyer and former president of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. She was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 2004.
