The Davis duo speaks (although they probably regret it)
This morning, Lowell has a very important diary up concerning one of the next surefire Democratic takeover seats for Virginia. Former Delegate Chap Peterson (D-VA) will be challenging Jeannemarie Devolites Davis for her state Senate seat in November. This is great news for Virginia Democrats and horribly frightening news for Virginia Republicans. Both the WaPo article and Lowell's diary are great, and I cannot wait to support Chap in any way I can. However, I would be remiss if I didn't point out a line in the article that is, in my opinion, worth discussing.
Said Davis: "Jeannemarie has won four terms without being married to me. To sit there and say it's not okay for a woman who won the seat in her own right to serve. . . . Chap is a fine young man, but it looks to me that you have an ambitious politician who lost his last race, looking for an office."That's exactly right, Congressman Davis, you weren't married...you were just having an affair. How about the whole story, instead of half truths and borderline lies?
The scarlet letter strikes again...

Jaaaaaiiimmeeee...please? We've tangled about this before, and I know you have a particular stance on this type of rhetoric. But...consider taking the high road here. Yes, there are a lot of hacks who ran Jim Webb through the mud unecessarily, but they are hacks and I think more highly of you than that.
Chap is a good man and a phenomenal candidate and at this stage in the game I don't think he needs or wants someone out there committing hatchet jobs on his behalf. The people of the 34th deserve to make their choice based on who they think will serve them best in Richmond, and I hope that we in the 'sphere can help inform them without descending into the mire of personal attacks.
Tom Davis did say that he supported the marriage amendment because marriage is between ONE man and ONE woman. I didn't hear him add that marriage involved one woman "after another." It's not his divorce alone that makes this issue worthy of examination, it's his sanctimony.
Furthermore Tom and JDD use their relationship to make money and to cover up corruption at taxpayer's expense. Just one example -- why did UPS give JDD $10,000? Because she was responsible for postal reform in her role as Chairman of the Govt Reform Committee? Oh, wait, that was Tom in charge! They ran up against the Federal maximum in his donations, so they gave even more money to her. And Tom says she earned that money on her own? C'mon, we were't born yesterday.
Right after we discuss Tom and Jeannemarie's morals, let's move on to Jim Webb. Won't that be fun?!
George Allen lost, you should probably move on Janie. I am so pleased to be graced with your presence though...
