UPDATE: Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) admitted to hospital with stroke like symptoms

UPDATE: I see LiberalProgressive has an update...CNN has reported that Sen. Tim Johnson (D-SD) did NOT have a stroke...Godspeed, Senator. Rest up, and get well.

MSNBC and CNN are currently reporting that Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) experienced stroke-like symptoms today and has been taken to George Washington hospital for observation. There have been no updates regarding his condition. South Dakota is governed by a Republican, Mike Rounds, and both houses of the State Legislature are controlled by Republicans. In the event that Johnson could not fulfill his job duties, Mike Rounds would have the opportunity to appoint a replacement until 2008.
The governor fills vacancies that occur in the state legislature, the state judiciary, and other state constitutional offices. In addition, the Constitution of the United States vests the governor with the power to fill vacanies in South Dakota's seats in the United States Senate.
Senator Johnson, you are in my thoughts, and I wish you well. Governor Rounds, in the case of a tragedy, you better be prepared to follow the will of the people by appointing a DEMOCRATIC MEMBER to fill Johnson's seat.

Will of the people? If it was the will of the people then why is there a Republican governor? Time to hand over the wheel to the right.

Sorry...let me rephrase that...I was typing to fast.

"Will of the people? If the will of the people was being ignored, then wouldn't there be a DEMOCRAT governor and not a REPUBLICAN? Time to hand over the wheel to the right..."

He was elected in 2002, before your party was driven into the ground by fascists.

Nice try, the GOP governor would appoint a repug faster than ________ (Insert favorite saying here).

This is about power and throwing the Senate back to Cheneyville is an easy call for these bastards.

Good luck and health to Senator Johnson and hope that it was a mini-stroke if if was indeed a stroke.

You can swear here. I mod if necessary.

John, you sound a bit too gleeful over this.

I'm also not shocked that you read my blog for breaking news stories.

Just heard on the Randi Rhodes Show that Johnson has already left the hospital and will undergo extensive observation and testing by a stroke team.

This is temporarily great news, for both Johnson and family and the United States os America

I actually watch FOX for breaking stories...and SWAC girl. Not yours. I went over here to repost on the Christmas blog. Your questions are there, by the way.

And no, I'm not a sadist--I wish for the best of health for Mr. Johnson.

If I were you, I'd be rethinking what I just wrote. Time to hand the wheel to the right? What kind of sick mind do you have, buddy? He's a human being, and he's had (possibly) a life-threatening ordeal. His family is probably terrified, and all you can think about is getting back the Senate? I'm praying for you tonight, pal, because you seriously need help.

CNN reported earlier that it wasn't a stroke. Good news, and hopefully Johnson will enjoy a SPEEDY recovery over the holidays.

John, go away! You have 0 credibility on anything, and admittedly watch Faux News for "breaking news," and equally (maybe even worse) bad, you admittedly watch "SWAC girl" for your news. You also post pictures from a site (I refuse to call it a blog because it makes the rest of us REAL bloggers look bad) that exist EXPRESSLY to attack Lefty bloggers using childish, poorly cropped photos. Take your sniping back over to SwacGirl's site, where idiocy, and bigotry is the accepted language.

Pffffffft.."breaking news..."

I've already called them to the carpet for coming here (hellooooooo IP address search) and biting off my headlines. Of course, publishing my comments on their "blog" is ENTIRELY too much work for people that actually have to moderate comments to such an extreme that viewers have to a. do word verif., b. have to be a member of bogger, and c. have to wait for the comment to be "approved" before it appears. Um, anxious much? Worried about differing opinions bc you are fully aware that you are in the minority much?

Yeah, that would define them.

Sad and pathetic, they are.

I know all about your IP address searches (you STILL need to let me know how to do that - theliberalprogressive@yahoo.com !

The fact that they have to personally APPROVE comments makes them look ridiculous, but everyone already knew that.

Another update from CNN, they just reported they believed it was could possibly be bleeding in the brain, or a hemmorage (sp).... from everything I've heard about Governor Rounds, he's an ass, and there is NO CHANCE he'd even consider appointing a Dem.

Thadd had a brain aneurism at age 16. He's as good as new. Cheers to Senator Jonson. Godspeed.

Rounds is a total hardcore righty, and he's likely put somebod like him up there. If the worst happens, and God forbid that it does, expect major changes in the US Senate.

Aneurisms can range from very serious to a minor nuisance. He has the best doctors in the country with him right now, so lets hope the Senator does okay.

11:08 PM
Blogger Terry Carter said...

Yup! You would think Rounds would be smart enough to know that appointing a Republican to replace a Democrat WHOM THE VOTERS PICKED, would anger A LOT of people (not to mention how bad it would look doing this after a Democratic Senator died/ fell so ill he could no longer serve). Furthermore, whoever he appointed would only serve until 2008 - meaning, the political fallout from appointing a Republican would be worse for him than just appointing a Dem would.

..sorry if that's confusing, I can't think of a simpler way to put it. :)

made sense to me, terry.

Oh yeah (and sorry to "comment bomb" Jaime) but I forgot to mention that I'm a *little* concerned due to the LACK of updates being given to the media, and being reported, you would think that if all is well they would be quick to make that known...

Hopefully everything IS okay, but I just thought I would point that out, and see if anyone else perhaps had the same thoughts...

You're not comment bombing me. I too, am worried, as I think everyone should be. An elected oficial has taken ill, and a family and support group are stricken with grief and fear. There is also the issue of the balance of power, which the Republican party desperately wants to steal. There is, most importantly, the issue of Johson's health.

I am pulling for Johnson.

11:49 PM
Blogger Terry Carter said...

Yeah, I don't want anyone to think I'm taking away from the fact that Johnson is ill, but it has the potential to have seriously politica implications.

In all honestly, the more I think about it, the more I keep imagining JUST HOW PISSED OFF at the Republican party America will be (if indeed a Republican is appointed to replace Johnson in the unfortunate event of something terrible).

Hey donkey in a trunk et. al.,

Are you all that scared of John and SWAC that you can't come up with a reason he's threatening aside from the Dem default answer of "you have 0 credability because you watch Fox News!"? SWAC girl, rightside, dog, elle, jawa report, and shaun (just to name a few) have more credability than the enitre CNN news desk. I think that you guys are just to scared to confront them face to face in a logical debate because they would wipe the floor with you and whip you again for not getting up in the corners. What you falsley call idiocy and biogtry, most rational folks call the truth and news.

On a separate note, I've been following PJ's and John's exchange about the spitting on the solider. I find it funny that she continues to say that she's the one with the more credability, yet she can't even find it in herself to answer his questions. If you are so right, then prove him so wrong. Or do you have the guts?

John, go away! You have 0 credibility on anything, and admittedly watch Faux News for "breaking news," and equally (maybe even worse) bad, you admittedly watch "SWAC girl" for your news. the_steographer,

Uhmm, why is there a random quote from me at the bottom of your comment? Do you NOT know how to correctly quote, and respond to people? Furthermore, SwacGirl, among others, can't even find it in themselves to stop their CONSTANT grammar, and spelling errors, most of them also BLOCK comments from user's they don't agree with, so WHO is refusing to debate who know?

God I love completely OWNING you guys when you try to be "witty" but FAIL miserably.

It's not me that you need to worry about insulting. I know you are afraid to debate logically and rationally any Republican, but you shouldn't insult the SWAC are generically. You might awaken the Dog from his evening slumber. You should have let sleeping dogs lie Terry...you know what happen list time you got on Grievous' bad side....I'd watch out. You saw what happened to PJ...

As for your debate challenge, I would love it. You name the time an place, and I'd gladly particpate in any debate forum with those people. Again, name the time and date, and I'll be there. Put your money where your mouth is...and then, for the love of all that is good in the world, put some ridalin where your mouth is.

P.S.

Reuters is reporting that Johnson has undergone surgery. They will not say what for. All they know is that it is not a stroke or heart attack, but something "stroke-like."

Everybody expects some news on the matter by tomorrow morning. Good night, Senator Johnson. We're praying for you.

AAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA! That's pretty funny. Listen, I don't know why they are obessessed with me, but that's their problem. They're old too, so it's extra strange. Must not have much to do. But, listen, when they come here and copy things I'm going to call them out, period. And no; they really don't have credibility.

And I don't answer Maxfield's questions bc he a. basiclly violated blogger rules by cutting and pasting from here without crediting me at all and b. says in his blog that I would spit on a soldier if givenm the chance. Why the hell should I give him the time of day?
